JOHN EARLY

JOHN EARLY

If we aren’t living somewhat “on the edge” then perhaps we are living too complacently without reaping the benefits of embracing the challenges that life presents to us.  In one area of my life this has metaphorically taken place with the creation of these images and to finally be pushed over the edge-to take a chance-and bring them public for either rejection or admiration. Talk about jumping off a cliff…I just hope my parachute works.  I study people and things and try to pick up nuances, which begs the question “what else is really going on?” I see eyes and wonder what’s really going on behind them; couples in an impassioned embrace and wonder if there is a subtext to which I am not privy; a woman looking at a mirror image of herself and wonder what she really sees; abstracts, the interpretations of which are as endless as the shapes of the clouds above; and of course abstracts of bodies also begging the question “what more is actually there?”  When we see the picture of a rose, we know it’s a rose. Now to be sure there are pictures that appeal to some people more than others…but it’s still a rose. I see distortions of that “rose.” Things aren’t really that clear cut for me and neither should the interpretations of the images you see before you.  I have not personalized most of these photos with names of my choosing because I want them to evoke a specific feeling from each one those who experience them. They are supposed to be creative and unique and I don’t want to bias something with a name.
